Description:

This article describes how to configure the LANCOM-internal DHCPv6 server to assign IPV6 addresses (IN_NA) on the local network (e.g. INTRANET).

Requirements:

  • The use of address assignment via DHCPv6 is not recommended for dynamic IPv6 prefixes, because clients may not renew addresses obtained via DHCPv6 in the event of a prefix change. In this case, the clients still use the old prefix and communication via IPv6 is no longer possible until the address lease time has expired.
  • Android clients do not have an integrated DHCPv6 client and therefore do not support address assignment by DHCPv6. These clients can only obtain addresses via router advertisement/auto-configuration.

Scenario:

Procedure:

1) Open the configuration dialog for the LANCOM router and switch to the menu item IPv6 → Router-Advertisement.

2) Modify the entry for the local network INTRANET.

When enabled, the option Managed address configuration flag instructs a client to request the DHCPv6 server for an IPv6 address (“Stateful Address Assignment”).

3) Switch to the menu IPv6 → Router Advertisement → Prefix list.

4) Modify the entry for the local network INTRANET.

If you disable the Allow auto configuration (SLAAC) option, Android clients can no longer obtain an IPv6 address.

5) Switch to the menu IPv6 → DHCPv6 → Address pools.

6) Create a new entry (recommended variant):

  • Address pool name: Enter a name for the address pool.
  • First address: In the case of a dynamic prefix, set the value “::1:0:0:0:1”. The prefix 2001:db8:abcd::/56 obtained from the provider is combined with the value “::1:0:0:0:1” and internally set to 2001:db8:abcd:1:0:0:0:1.
  • Last address: In the case of a dynamic prefix, set the value “::1:0:0:0:F”. The prefix 2001:db8:abcd::/56 obtained from the provider is combined with the value “::1:0:0:0:F” and internally set to 2001:db8:abcd:1:0:0:0:F.
  • Receive prefix from: Select the name of the Internet connection used to obtain the dynamic IPv6 prefix (e.g. INTERNET).

7) Switch to the menu IPv6 → DHCPv6 → DHCPv6 networks.

8) Modify the entry for the local network INTRANET.

9) Write the configuration back to the LANCOM router. This concludes the configuration.
