Description:

This document describes how to set up a Deutsche Telekom IPv6 Internet connection over a cellular network with LANCOM cellular routers.

Requirements:
  • Provider T-Mobile
  • LANCOM 178x-4G router with an integrated LTE/4G cellular modem

Please observe the following list of devices with regard to operating IPv6 over cellular networks:

  • LANCOM cellular routers with 3G cellular modems (WWAN) support IPv6 in principle, but the 3G card firmware does not support the access type IPv6 (PDP type).
  • For instructions on updating the WWAN module for LANCOM cellular routers of the 178x-4G series see the following Knowledge Base article: Dokumentlinksymbol

Procedure:

1) Configuring the Internet connection with the Setup Wizard:

1.1) Launch the Setup Wizard in LANconfig and select the option Set up Internet access.

1.2) Select the option Create a new connection for IPv4 and IPv6.

1.3) In the next dialog set the interface to Mobile interface (internal modem).

1.4) Set the Type of IP connection to the option Native IPv4 and native IPv6 (dual stack).

1.5) Set the country to Germany.

1.6) Set the Internet provider to T-Mobile.

1.7) Accept the default settings in the following dialog.

1.8) In the next dialog, enter the PIN for your mobile connection.

1.9) In this example, your Internet connection remains open permanently and reconnects automatically if interrupted. If you require a different behavior, just modify the value for the short hold time to suit.

1.10) In this example no ISDN backup is used.

1.11) The IPv6 parameters are automatically retrieved from the router advertisements.

1.12) Exit the Setup Wizard with the Finish button. The configuration is then written back to the device.

2) Manual changes to the configuration:

2.1) Open the configuration for the LANCOM cellular router and switch to the menu item Interfaces -> WAN -> Mobile profiles.

2.2) Open the mobile profile that was created in step 1 using the Setup Wizard. In this example it is INET_WWAN.

2.3) Set the parameter PFS type to the value IPv4 + IPv6.

2.4) Switch to the menu IPv6 -> General -> WAN interfaces.

2.5) Open the interface profile that was created in step 1 using the Setup Wizard. In this example it is INET_WWAN.

2.6) Set the parameter PD source type to the value Router advertisement.

2.7) Now write the configuration back to the LANCOM cellular router.

2.8) The configuration steps are now complete and the router establishes a cellular IPv6 Internet connection.

Use LANmonitor to check the functionality of the IPv6 Internet connection.
