Description:
This document describes the various methods available for resetting a LANCOM to its factory settings.

Software required:
  1. LANconfig (download latest version)
  2. A Telnet or SSH client (e.g. PuTTY)

Important:
  1. Before resetting, make a backup of the current configuration. Otherwise this will be lost and irrecoverable. Proceed as follows to do this:
With LANconfig:
      1. In LANconfig, right-click on the router with the mouse.
      2. From the context menu, select the option Configuration management -> Save as file…
      3. Navigate to the folder for storing the configuration file and click on Save.

With WEBconfig:
    1. Open a browser window and enter the router's IP address.
    2. Login to the device with your user name and password.
    3. In the WEBconfig menu select the option File management -> Save configuration.
    4. Navigate to the folder for storing the configuration file and click on Save.

  • After being reset, the LANCOM can be accessed under the following IP address:
The local IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.254, where xxx.xxx.xxx stands for your local network
The IP address 172.23.56.254, assuming that the LANCOM is not connected to a (pre-configured) local network.
  • After being reset, the LANCOM has no password.
  • After being reset, the LANCOM can be accessed by ISDN. An unconfigured LANCOM will accept any incoming call.
  • A reset does NOT lead to the loss of activated options (e.g. Fax Gateway, VPN, etc.).

Procedure:

There are two ways of resetting a LANCOM to its factory settings:
  1. By using the reset button on the LANCOM on the front of back, depending on the model.
  2. By using the console (Telnet/SSH)

It is currently not possible to carry out a reset with WEBconfig, the web-based configuration GUI.

The reset button on the LANCOM:
Every LANCOM has a reset button which can be pressed with a pointed object (e.g. a ball-point pen). Pressing the button for 5 seconds or longer restarts the device and resets the configuration to its factory settings.
All LEDs on the device light up continuously in red. Once the switch is released the LANCOM will restart with the factory settings restored.
Since LCOS 8.0 it is possible to load a rollout configuratin which is stored in the routers memory. To load this rollout configuration you have to press the reset button for 15 seconds or longer. The rollout configuration deletes and overwrites the current configuration. For more details refer to .

Resetting with the console:
1. Start a console session with the LANCOM (e.g. with Telnet or SSH) and login with your user name and password.
2. Enter the following command:
do /other/reset
3. Press the enter key.
4. Enter your password and press the enter key again.
