Description:

This document describes the most frequent questions and answers to vRouter licensing.

FAQ to vRouter licences:

1. What happens when a vRouter license expires?

After a vRouter license expires the full functionality is still available.

It is merely not possible to make configuration changes or upload another firmware.

2. Are vRouter licenses cumulative?

vRouter licenses are not cumulative. Therefore it is not possible to purchase the vRouter 50 twice, so that 20 access points can be managed.

3. How can a vRouter license be extended?

When activating the same license (e.g. existing vRouter 50 and vRouter 50 is activated) the license terms are added.

When activating a bigger license (e.g. existing vRouter 50 and vRouter 250 is activated) the smaller licence expires. The license term then matches the term of the bigger license.

The license extension with the same or a bigger license can be initiated at any time.

If a smaller license version should be activated (e.g. existing vRouter 250 and vRouter 50 should be activated), the configuration of the vRouter has to be exported and the vRouter has to be newly installed with the smaller license.

4. How can the WLAN Controller be used when the used vRouter license doesn't support this feature?

Please contact LANCOM support via services@lancom.de. We will exchange your vRouter license to another one with the same license attributes which supports the WLAN Controller functionality.

Please note, that the vRouter demo license does not support the WLAN Controller functionality!

If the WLAN Controller feature is not available, please establish a CLI connection to the vRouter and enter the command ls Setup/WLAN-Management/.

If the License-count shows the value 0, the vRouter license does not support the WLAN Controller functionality.

5. How can more than 1000 Access Points be managed by a vRouter unlimited with 3000 VPN channels?

The vRouter unlimited with 3000 VPN channels supports up to 1500 Access Points. However this number is only supported as of LCOS 10.50 RU3. Older firmware versions only support up to 1000 Access Points.

Please also note, that in existing vRouter installations with a firmware up to and including 10.50 RU2 the additional Access Points cannot be unlocked by updating the firmware to a version as of 10.50 RU3. In this case the vRouter has to be be newly installed with a firmware as of version 10.50 RU3. The license can be activated afterwards.
