Description:

If one of the following error messages is shown in the Syslog of a router, this means, that the connection between the switch module and the CPU has been interupted due to overvoltage or an electromagnetic field. In order for the router to work correctly after such an interruption, the connection is then reset (resetting SERDES).

  • external request - resetting SERDES.
  • SGMII link lost - resetting SERDES.

Since the cause is an external interruption there is no solution in software. The behavior also cannot be solved by modifying the configuration.

You can find information regarding the electromagnetic conformity of our devices under the following link:

Necessary steps:

  • Overvoltage:
    • Check, if a cable is connected to the router (router case or Ethernet port), where voltage is present.
    • As a safety precaution exchange the cables connected to the router (network, power, etc.) to avoid a defective cable.
  • Electromagnetic field:
    • Check, if an electromagnetic field is present near the router (e.g. caused by the motor of a conveyor belt).
    • Change the location of the router.
