Description:

This article describes how IP parameters (e.g. VLAN ID or IPv4 address) can be configured for individual interfaces on a switch of the GS-3xxx series.

Info

Access to the switch configuration is only possible if an IP Interface is configured on the switch for this network.

Requirements:

  • Switch of the GS-31xx series
  • Any browser for access to the web interface

Procedure:

Open the web interface of the device in a browser and switch to the menu System → IP Address → Advanced Settings.

Click the button Add interface and adjust the following parameters:

  • Delete: A click on the button Delete will delete the IP interface if necessary.
  • VLAN: Specify the VLAN ID for the IP interface.
  • IPv4 DHCP Enable: Set a checkmark to enable the DHCP client (DHCPv4). With an active DHCP client on this interface, the switch obtains an IP address from a DHCP server in this network.
  • IPv4 DHCP Fallback: This value identifies the time in seconds for which the switch tries to obtain an IP address via DHCP when the DHCP client is active (IPv4 DHCP Enable). The IPv4 address stored here is used as a fallback.
    • Values can be specified between 0 - 4294967295 seconds.
    • The value 0 disables the fallback mechanism. The DHCP client will then keep trying to obtain an IP address until it is successful.
  • IPv4 DHCP Current Lease: With the DHCP client enabled (IPv4 DHCP Enable), this field displays the IPv4 address assigned by the DHCP server.
  • IPv4 Address: Enter the IPv4 address that the switch should use on this interface. With the DHCP client enabled (IPv4 DHCP Enable), the fallback IPv4 address is specified there. Leave the field empty if you do not require fallback.
  • IPv4 Mask Length: Enter the netmask that the switch should use on this interface. With the DHCP client enabled (IPv4 DHCP Enable), the fallback netmask is specified there.
    • Values can be specified between 0 - 30 bits.
  • IPv6 DHCP Enable: Set a checkmark to enable the DHCP client (DHCPv6). With an active DHCP client on this interface, the switch obtains an IP address from a DHCP server in this network.
  • IPv6 DHCP Rapid Commit: Set a checkmark here to activate DHCPv6 rapid commit. When using this option, only two packets are required for the address assignment, instead of four. This is particularly useful in high-load scenarios.
  • IPv6 DHCP Current Lease: With the DHCP client enabled (IPv6 DHCP Enable), this field displays the IPv6 address assigned by the DHCP server.
  • IPv6 Address: Enter the IPv6 address that the switch should use on this interface. Leave the field empty if no IPv6 is to be used on this interface.
  • IPv6 Mask Length: Enter the IPv6 netmask that the switch should use on this interface. Leave the field empty if no IPv6 is to be used on this interface.
