Description

If a software update of a LANCOM device is initiated via the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC), the LMC only tells the device to download the firmware from the download area (https://my.lancom-systems.com) and perform an update. The firmware is not downloaded from the LMC. If the firmware update fails due to any reason, the error message URI_REQUEST_FAILED is displayed.

This article describes the causes and solutions, when a firmware update of a LANCOM device via the LANCOM Management Cloud is not possible.

Procedure:

Source address for the Software update is missing (LCOS only):

1) Automatic firmware update fails:

Make sure, that the Source address in the menu Management → Software update has been set.

2) Manual firmware update fails:

Make sure, that the Source address in the menu Management → Advanced has been set under Firmware autoload.

Upstream router or firewall blocks or modifies packets to the download server:

It is possible that an upstream router or a firewall blocks the data traffic to the download server or modifies the packets in such a way, that the communication with the download server is disrupted. In this case communication has to be allowed or an exception has to be created.

The procedure to create an exception when the HTTP proxy is used on a LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewall is described in the following Knowledge Base article:

Creating exceptions for particular web pages or applications when using the HTTP(S)-Proxy on a LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewall

DNS resolution for the download server doesn't work:

Create traces for the respective device type and contact LANCOM support afterwards with the following information:

Analysis for access points and routers with LCOS:

Create a trace with the attached prefabricated trace configuration and initiate the firmware update via the LMC to record the error state.

DNS_HTTP-Client_LMC-Control-State_LMC-Control-Data.lcg

Analysis for access points with LCOS LX:

Connect to the access point via the CLI (SSH), enter the following commands and initiate the firmware update via the LMC to record the error state. Save the output into a text file afterwards.

tr # firmware

tr # lmc

The traces can be stopped by entering the same command again (e.g. trace # lmc).

Analysis for LANCOM switches with LCOS SX:

Create an LMC trace on the switch as described in the following Knowledge Base articles and initiate the firmware update via the LMC to record the error state. Save the output into a text file afterwards.
