Description:

As of LCOS 10.70 the DHCPv4 client supports the Client ID format in accordance with RFC 4361. As a result the DHCP client uses the parameter DUID (DHCP Unique Identifier) in DHCP requests. The DUID is composed of the IPv6 IAID (Identity Association Identifer) and the MAC address. If this parameter is not supported by the DHCP server or if the DHCP server is not configured properly, the DHCP Discover is discarded by the DHCP server and the requesting device cannot obtain an IP address.

This only affects access points and routers with LCOS as of version 10.70 with default settings (e.g. after a reset). Existing installations aren't affected from this behavior. When performing a firmware update to LCOS 10.70 and higher a config converter restores the previous behavior, so that only the MAC address is transmitted.

This article describes how the configuration of an access point or router can be modified, so that only the MAC address is used as a parameter in the Client ID and thus an IP address can be obtained via DHCP.

The DHCP servers in LCOS as well as LCOS FX are able to process DHCP requests, which include a DUID instead of the MAC address in the Client ID. A configuration adjustment is not necessary.

Requirements:

Procedure:

1) Connect to the access point or router via the CLI and enter the command ls Setup/DHCP/.

In this case the option DUID is assigned to the parameter LAN-Client-ID-Type as well as the parameter WAN-Client-ID-Type.

2) Enter the following commands, so that only the MAC address is transmitted in the DHCP requests.

  • set Setup/DHCP/LAN-Client-ID-Type MAC

  • set Setup/DHCP/WAN-Client-ID-Type MAC
