Description:

This document describes the procedures to prevent the use of the LANCAPI by configuring the firewall of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008.

Note:
The following procedures apply only to LANCAPI versions 8.00.0004 and earlier. If you operate LANCAPI version 8.00.0007 (or later), no adjustment of the Windows Firewall is necessary.

Procedures for Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows Server 2008:

1) In the Windows task bar, click on the Start button and select the menu item Run....

2) In the dialog that opens, enter the command WF.msc and click on OK.
This opens the program Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.

3) In the following window, go to the menu item Inbound rules and locate in the adjacent list to the right the two entries with the name LANCAPI.

4) With a right-mouse click on each rule, you can specify whether you want to disable or delete the firewall rule.

INFO: Disabling or deleting the firewall rules means that the LANCAPI can no longer function!

    · If you want to prevent the use of the LANCAPI by default but you still wish to make use of this option every now and then, then you can select the Disable rule item. All you have to do to use the LANCAPI again is re-enable these firewall rules.

5) Close the Windows Firewall window after you have completed your changes.

Deleting the LANCAPI firewall rules from the command line:

1) Open the command line dialog in Windows.

2) At the command prompt enter the following command syntax and then press Enter:
      netsh.exe advfirewall firewall delete rule name="LANCAPI" profile=any

3) A message is displayed to indicate that the rule has been successfully deleted.

4) Close the command line dialog in Windows.
