Description: This document describes how to configure a Public Spot scenario which is connected to the property management system (PMS) Micros Fidelio. Due to the connection between the Public Spot and the PMS system, it is no longer necessary to create user data for Public Spot users on the LANCOM router, because the users can use their data as stored in the PMS to login to the Public Spot (e.g., a hotel guest can login using their room number and name). In the case of fee-based access, the PMS can automatically charge the costs of Internet usage to the room bill.
Requirements: - LCOS as of version 8.82 (download latest version)

Scenario: This document describes the configuration of the following scenario: - A hotel is to provide a fee-based Public Spot wireless LAN for its guests.
- The hotel has a Fidelio server, which is integrated into the in-house management LAN with the IP address range 192.168.50.0/24.
- The Public Spot WLAN is to be configured to have its own IP address range of 192.168.100.0/24 and to be separated from the in-house LAN so that only Internet access is possible.
- A guest should be able to login to the fee-based Public Spot WLAN with the data collected when the guest checked-in and available in Fidelio. The costs are charged to the guest's hotel bill.
Procedure: 1) Configuration of the Public Spot scenario: 1.1) Launch the Setup Wizard in LANconfig and select the option Public Spot setup. 1.2) In this example configuration, a new logical WLAN network is set up for the Public Spot. 1.3) The logical wireless network is named WLAN-1. The SSID is configured to be GUEST. 1.4) Since the Public Spot WLAN is to have its own IP address range (192.168.100.0/24), you have to enter the appropriate values for IP address and netmask. To prevent the Public Spot WLAN from accessing the hotel management LAN, you have to activate the option Separate the Public Spot from the internal networks. 1.5) You can accept the default values in the dialog that follows. 1.6) If you wish to configure an Administrator user with restricted rights, you can do this the following dialog. You do not need this user if you wish to use the functionality in Micros Fidelio. 1.7) As the method for user login you should configure HTTPS. 1.8) Automatic re-login for Public Spot users is not configured for this example. 1.9) If you wish to Log the logins and logoffs of Public Spot users, then enable the logging option. Please note that logging is subject to country-specific regulations . 1.10) If you wish to store or print-out the settings of the Public Spot, select the appropriate option here. 1.11) Clicking on Finish concludes the setup wizard and loads the configuration into the LANCOM router. 1.12) In the following dialog, click on the button No as you do not require any further setup wizards. You can check the basic function of the configured Public Spot for example by connecting a laptop to the guest WLAN (SSID GUEST ). If you are connected with the WLAN and you launch a Web browser, the default log-in page of the Public Spot appears.
2) Configuring the connection to the PMS system Micros Fidelio: 2.1) Open the configuration for the LANCOM router or access point and switch to the menu item Configuration → Public Spot → PMS interface. 2.2) Enable the PMS interface and enter the following parameters into the connection settings: - PMS server IP address:
Enter the IP address of the Fidelio server here. Your system administrator will be able to give you the IP address of the Fidelio server.
- PMS port:
Enter the Fidelio server communications port here. Get the communications port of the Fidelio server from your system administrator.
- Login form:
Here you can select whether to display the login page for Public Spot access that is either free of charge or fee-based.
- Free of charge: A check is made to see whether the guest is checked-in to the hotel. No costs are charged for using the Public Spot.
- Subject to charge: A check is made to see whether the guest is checked-in to the hotel. Costs for the usage of the Public Spot are charged to the guest's account depending on the rate selected.
- Rates:
In the case of fee-based Public Spot access, this table is used to specify the desired rates (see steps 2.3 to 2.5).
- Currency:
Defines whether the currency is to be specified in cents or pennies.
 2.3) Since this configuration is for fee-based Public-Spot access, after selecting the option subject to charge you then click on the button Rates. 2.4) Click on the Add... button to specify a new rate. 2.5) In this example, one hour of access to the Public Spot WLAN is to be charged at 30 cents. Click on OK to add the entry of the list of rates. Information:
You can configure multiple rates in this table, e.g. 2 hours for 50 cents or 24 hour access for 1000 cents (equivalent to EUR 10).
2.6) Close the configuration dialogs with the OK button and write the configuration back to the LANCOM router or access point. This concludes the configuration.
3) Function check: 3.1) You can check the function of the configured Public Spot by connecting to the guest WLAN (SSID GUEST) with a laptop, for example. If you are connected with the WLAN and you launch a Web browser, the Public Spot's Fidelio login page appears. 3.2) Enter the data for a guest stored in Fidelio and select the desired rate. 3.3) Click the Buy button. After a successful login, an HTML page with the session information is displayed. 3.4) Access any website (e.g. www.google.com). Information:
If the interface between Fidelio and the LANCOM Public Spot doesn't work, one potential error source is that the values used for the separator and the character set on the LANCOM router or access point could be set differently than those specified on the Fidelio server. To read-out the values for the separator and the character set on the LANCOM router or access point, start a Telnet or SSH session and enter the following at the command prompt: ls /Setup/PMS-Interface The parameter settings will appear in the list. It is important that identical values are configured on the LANCOM router or access point and on the Fidelio server. Valid character sets are the default character set CP850 and the character set W1252 . The separator can by any punctuation mark , e.g. a semicolon or comma. |
